False: Arch Bishop Odongo Dead

Reports alleging that Arch Bishop Emeritus James Odongo is dead are false and misleading.

Reality Check Uganda has verified with the Catholic Church that the Arch Bishop is alive and not dead as reported on the social media today.

Arch Bishop Odongo was born in 1931 in Molo Village along the Mbale-Tororo Highway. He was ordained a priest in Rome on 22^nd December 1956 and elected Titular Bishop of Baana and Auxillary Bishop of Tororo Diocese on 25^th November 1964.

He was Consecrated as the Bishop of Tororo on 16^th February 1965 and became the first Metropolitan Bishop of Tororo Arch Diocese on 22^nd January 1999.

On 22^nd June 2002 the Pope accepted his resignation from the pastoral care of Tororo Arch Diocese.
